2000年に開催されたクノッソス宮殿に関する国際会議の報告書。この年はアーサー・エヴァンスがクノッソスの発掘調査を開始した1900年のちょうど100年後に当たり、記念行事として英語とギリシア語の2ヶ国語を使用言語に定め、開かれました。
刊行までに4年かかっていますが、編者たちにとって両言語における綴りや表音の違いが大きく、思わぬ時間を要したと冒頭に書いてあります。

厚い本で、もし一部分をCD-ROMに回さなかったら、もっと重たい書物になっていたはずです。CD-ROMを添付する出版形態は近年見られるようになりましたが、一般的ではありません。冊子体と電子化された発行物にはそれぞれ短所と長所があり、どちらかが圧倒的に優れているというわけではない。
長く残すことを優先するのであれば、CD-ROMで配布することはもちろん躊躇されます。

などもありますが、これらの他に、発掘者エヴァンスについての発表もいくつかあって、こちらの方がどちらかといえば面白い内容を伝えています。どういう経緯でクノッソスの土地を買い集めたのかとか、若い頃は何をやっていたのかとか。
エヴァンスと言えば、自分で解読しようと線文字の資料を独り占めしたり、宮殿の修復方法などで良くないイメージを持たれていますが、改めて公平に彼の人生全体を見直そうという試み。
