CoA I-III, 4 Vols. (1923-1951)

「アケナテン（アクエンアテン）の都市 City of Akhenaten」というのはアマルナのことで、ピートリが19世紀末に中枢部を発掘した後、同じイギリス隊によって私人墓の調査がなされました。次にはドイツ隊が住居地域の発掘を始めましたが、第一次世界大戦により中断。
戦争終了後、イギリス隊は再びこの地で本格的な調査を開始します。その成果を纏めたもので、全3巻4冊からなる報告書。専門家は"CoA"としばしば省略して引用をおこないます。この発掘によってアマルナの全貌がほぼ明らかにされました。レプリントも出ていますが、それも入手が難しくなりつつあります。

アマルナの綴りが第1巻では異なり、また執筆者も違う点に注意。T. E. ピートはこの同じ年にリンド数学パピルスの本を出していますから、相当忙しかったはず。C. L. ウーリーはこの後、エジプトを離れてウルの発掘の指揮に携わります。
調査に関わったJ. D. S. ペンドルベリーもJ. サムソンも、それぞれアマルナに関する一般向けの本を書いていますが、研究書ではまず触れられません。

広大なアマルナで誰がどこを掘って、それはどの報告書の何ページに載っているのか、こうして長い年月を重ねるとともに当然、情報は錯綜してくるわけですが、ケンプらは全体地図を作成し直した際に建物ごとの索引を付しており、きわめて便利。どのような情報が本当に必要とされているかを充分に知った人による本の作り方。
