エジプト学の広がりを紹介した本。多岐にわたっているさまが了解され、これらをすべて知悉している人間はこの世にいないという点が最大の見どころ。展延し続ける領野において、自分はどの地点を占めているのかを知ったところで、たいして重要ではありません。本当は異領域間の接触が望まれています。

特に新旧両方の本に原稿を寄せている執筆者たちに、考えの進歩があるかどうかを確かめる作業は、若い読者に委ねられています。書かれるべき内容が増大することは、年代が降っていけば当たり前。
そうした問題を提起している書と思われます。
